Wine Pairing? |

Greetings!!!
As those of you that know me understand, wine shouldn't be about blind testing's, flavor analysis and furious note taking. It is about pure enjoyment. Sure it's a business to some, but the real pleasure is popping open a bottle, pouring a glass and tasting the hard work of someone that spent dozen of nights sleeping between some oak barrels on the cellar floor to make sure their wine came out best! Yes, winemakers are a curious breed and they actually do that.
Nevertheless, the result of their hard labor is what this page is about. All over the world, there are areas of land suitable to growing vitis vinefera. Almost always, these are the most beautiful parts of the country, with miles of dramatic vineyard-covered landscape, historical farmhouses and welcoming locals that passionately explain how their wines are better than all others. Often, when you're drinking the wine there with them, it is the best you've tasted.
Back to the reason you are reading this. There are some 10.000 plus wines available to the US wine consumer. The industry has developed at a rapid rate around the world. Globalization has created a world quality control system, meaning wine from anywhere need to meet a certain standard. It's Darwinism for wine producers. And as a result, good wines are emerging from lesser-known wine countries like Hungary, Greece and India, while certain French and Californian producers are being lambasted for their poor quality. German Rieslings are at the all-time popularity, Austrian Gruner Veltliner is huge hit and Argentinean Malbec is proven winner. Your wine list might have Walla Walla written next to one wine and Barossa next to the other. It was bad enough with Burgundies and Bordeaux, but it's a wine jungle out there now.
Cheers!
Patrick Forray.
